Pet Emergency Preparedness

March 22, 2010

Part of being a Pet Parent is taking on the responsibility of providing a safe environment for your pet kids to prevent accidents from happening.  Sometimes no matter what you do your pet will find himself/herself in a safety situation.

Here are some things you can do to be prepared for these type of situations:

Take a pet first aid ~ CPR course at your local Red Cross.

Have a well stocked first aid kit.

Have your veterinarian’s contact information and poison control number inside your pet’s first aid kit.

A veterinarian Guide to your Dog’s Symptoms – this is a good reference for dog owners to have on hand.

Acclimate your pet to being handled in similar ways that an animal healthcare person would.

All of the above will help you during a pet emergency.
